Chemical bonding, a relevant tool for designing new perovskite-type ferroelectric materials

Abstract

The perovskite-type structure has a composition and symmetry flexibility able to modify drastically the physical properties. As a significant example it will be shown in particular that the resulting modifications of the covalency influence strongly lattice distortion, spontaneous polarization and Curie temperature of the ferroelectrics concerned. The predictive character of the property changes will be illustrated in a relevant way.
