Dense domain structure in ferroelastics by EPR

Abstract

Transmission electron microscopy studies of KSc-molybdate reveal a dense domain structure in the vicinity of third ferroelastic phase transition at 183K. In addition, electron paramagnetic resonance investigations performed in this temperature range show evidence of lattice distortions characteristic of phases described by spatially modulated order parameter. The assumption was made that the lattice distortion producing the changes in EPR lineshape are associated with domain walls. A model of EPR lineshape for ferroelastics with the dense domain structure is reported and compared with the experimental results.
