Abstract

The largest application field for complex perovskite Pb(B′B′′)O3 relaxor based products has been multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLC). The other promising field for relaxor applications is piezoelectric transducers. One of the big advantages of relaxors-lead titanate PbTiO3 (PT) systems compared with PZT ceramics is the ease with which single crystal of the MPB composition can be grown. A promising application of the relaxors-PT single crystals is high frequency ultrasonic transducers for medical diagnostic equipment. Advantages of the Pb(B′B′′)O3—PT systems compared to PZT ceramics are broader bandwidth and better sensitivity. Lead zinc niobate titinate Pb[(Zn1/3Nb2/3)0.91 Ti0.09]O3 (PZNT 91/9) single crystal wafer size of 40 mm in diameter has been successfully prepared by the solution Bridgman process.
