Abstract
Malmström, B. og Palmér, O.: Lösmaterialackumulationer i blockhaven på Varangerhalvön i Nordnorge—en problemdiskussion. Geografisk Tidsskrift 82: 82–87, Lund, 15. november 1982.
A type of mounds consisting of unconsolidated deposits mainly situated in blockfields is presented. Comparisons are made with pingo-like remnants in northern Scandinavia described by other authors.
SUMMARY
Accumulations of unconsolidated deposits on the Varanger peninsula, northern Norway—discussion of a problem.
Summary: A type of mounds consisting of unconsolidated deposits mainly situated in blockfields is presented. The size of the mounds varies from 250 m in diameter and 10 m in height to not topographically marked rings of finer material in the blockfields. Of 810 the great majority are clustered in swarms in the blockfields on flat to gently sloping ground. Their interior varies from till to stratified sorted deposits. No traces of recent permafrost have been found in them. They are earlier discussed by Svensson (1971).
For comparison are mentioned pingo-like frost mounds south of the Laksefjord, Finnmark, Norway, pingo-like remnants, south of Peltojärvi, Finnish Lapland, and collapsed pingos, west of Björkliden, Swedish Lapland, described by H. Svensson, M. Seppälä and A. Rapp & S. Rudberg. The mounds on the Varanger peninsula are not quite identical with the above mentioned and form no homogeneous group with a common origin.
