Pages 152-207 | Received 17 Mar 1970, Published online: 09 May 2017

Summary

A number of factors associated with the phosphating of high strength steels and irons have been investigated. Part I of this work covers hydrogen absorption and hydrogen embrittlement of the steel due to the treatment. The effect of de-embrittling baking on the protective properties of phosphate coatings both alone and in conjunction with organic finishes is also considered.
