A New High Performance Sodium Chloride Acid Zinc Plating Process

Pages 25-29 | Received 26 Feb 1982, Published online: 08 May 2017

Summary

An acid zinc plating process which uses a sodium chloride supporting electrolyte is now practical. Cathodic depolarisation caused by the smaller sodium ion in the electric double layer can have a detrimental effect on the performance of conventional potassium chloride acid zinc brighteners. This problem is overcome with the use of special brighteners which are apparently stronger cathodic inhibitors.
