A procedure for teaching one's self hypnotic techniques for experimental purposes

Pages 144-148 | Received 08 Oct 1964, Published online: 31 Jan 2008

Abstract

A student's interest in hypnotic research may actually be discouraged because of the difficulty in obtaining a formal course or close supervision in hypnotic techniques. A method tried by two students to overcome this problem is presented. The 'self-teaching' procedure attempts to fulfill three basic criteria: safeguarding the S, requiring minimal supervisory time, and learning to administer a standard hypnotic scale. Some benefits seem to have been realized.
