Explicit group iterative methods for solving elliptic partial differential equations in 3-space dimensions

Abstract

In this paper, a new explicit 8-point group over-relaxation scheme is presented for the numerical solution of the sparse linear systems derived from the finite difference discretisation of a self-adjoint elliptic partial differential equation in 3-space dimensions. A comparison with the usual point S.O.R. scheme for the Laplace model problem shows the new technique to be competitive.
