A characterization of intercodes

Abstract

An intercode of index n has the synchronization delay smaller than or equal to n. The comma-free codes is a subfamily of intercodes. It can be used for information transmission with the synchronization delay equal to one. That is, a message can be decoded completely when the last symbol is received. A characterization of intercodes is given in this paper. Some relations between intercodes and some other codes are also mentioned
