Using computer algebra in decision support systems

Pages 133-143 | Received 23 Dec 1991, Published online: 20 Mar 2007

Abstract

We demonstrate Markov analysis and computer algebra can be employed to obtain closed form expressions decision support systems. Specifically, the coefficient matrix, used to obtain steady-state probabilities for a tandem queue, can be generated by an algorithm. Moreover, since queue measures, such as average number in the system and average time in the system, can be calculated in closed form, we may also generate numerical values and the corresponding graphs.
