Abstract

We show that more than N min (= 17) points are needed when s = 5 to construct a cubature formula of degree 2s − 1( = 9). We demonstrate this fact by attempting to construct a ninth degree formula for the weight function x 1/2 where the region of integration is the space

Ω = [(x y): 0 ≤ x ≤ and −1 ≤ y ≤ 1]
