On the solution of the Chini—Painlevé equation with application to the theory of planar tumbling of vehicles and meteorites in atmospheric entryFootnote

Abstract

A class of nonlinear ordinary differential equations describing the oscillatory behaviour of vehicles and meteorites entering planetary atmospheres is named as ‘Chini—Painlevé's equation’ in this paper. A series solution which may be termed as ‘Painlevé's fifth transcendental series’ is given and the stability of solutions is also determined.
