Accreditation of undergraduate engineering programs in Canada and what it means for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals

ABSTRACT

Achievement of the targets set for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) requires commitment and leadership from governments, and input and feedback from numerous collaborators. Professional engineers are one group of such collaborators who must ensure that their designs, projects, and practices enable sustainable development. This article discusses how the accreditation process for undergraduate engineering programmes in Canada confirms that accredited programmes are preparing graduates for careers in which they will be prepared to meet the challenges of striving towards the targets set by the UN SDGs.
