Food and feeding behaviour of fish in eight lakes in the north‐west of England

Abstract

The feeding habits of the fish in each of the eight lakes were investigated and discussed. The percentage values of each group of organisms forming the main fish diet were calculated. Close values for different species in the same lake were taken as an indication of competition between the species. It was found that fish behaviour followed different patterns depending on the amount of food organisms available and the number and type of species using these organisms.
