Alcohol and the unborn child: the fetal alcohol syndrome

Abstract

The author describes the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and shows a link between even moderate drinking and minor birth defects. It is asserted that alcohol is the third most common environmental cause of difficulties in the development of an unborn child. A Report of the U.K. National Council of Women is then cited as a source of research results and information obtained in the hope of preventing environmental hazards to the fetus.
