Abstract
The paper focuses on the ways and means to achieve environmentally‐sound tourism development in the Mediterranean through regional cooperation. Starting with a brief outline of the problem (with an emphasis on the underlying concept of carrying capacity), it indicates the possible areas of cooperation. These possibilities are then confronted with the results attained so far and a set of proposals are drawn regarding the scope and forms of future actions. Finally, some attention is devoted to pertinent Yugoslav experiences with respect to subject‐matter, in the belief that some, at least, might be relevant in the broader regional context.
