Water quality problems in China

Owing to the rapid growth of population and intensive industrialization and urbanization during the last thirty years, water quailty has become an increasingly important problem and major national concern in China. Some features of the problem are presented, including its relation to population, industry, wastes and pollution. Some examples of attempts to protect the quality of the water are provided with a report on some achievements during the last decade.
