Microbiological water quality along the Kuwait waterfront project, Kuwait

Pages 65-71 | Received 14 Mar 1990, Published online: 24 Feb 2007

The bacteriological water quality of bathing waters is examined in 11 stations along the Kuwait Waterfront project specially developed for recreational purposes. The overall finding of this study is that fecal coliforms exhibit a distinct seasonality and consistently more common at certain sampling sites. The most polluted areas are those which are, or planned to be, important bathing beaches. The presence of high levels of fecal coliforms and the isolation of various pathogenic microorganisms in the various recreational water studied should be of concern and closer monitoring is stressed.
