Editor’s Note

This research review is by Alee M. Rands and Gary M. Burlingame. Ms. Rands is a graduate student in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at Brigham Young University. She is involved in group psychotherapy outcome research with severely mentally ill populations. She is currently studying the effectiveness of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) at the Utah State Psychiatric Hospital. Dr. Burlingame is professor and chair of the Psychology Department at Brigham Young University; a former president of the Society of Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy (Division 49) of the American Psychological Association; and the president-elect of the American Group Psychotherapy Association. He also founded the Consortium for Group Research and Practice (C-GRP) at BYU with Dr. Robert Gleave. Dr. Burlingame supplements his teaching and leadership through extensive participation in group psychotherapy research.
