Abstract
While designing a system for reliability, various types of redundancy are employed. In the case of active m‐order systems, the determination of the number of active redundant units analytically to meet the required mean time to failure (MTTF) of the system is a tedious and time consuming process. This paper presents a graphical method to solve the above problem. To facilitate a graphical solution, some recursive formulae have been derived. The method has been extended to compute both the mean up time and frequency of failures of repairable redundant systems. Charts are provided for illustration.
