Production scheduling of perishable products

Abstract

This paper extends the classical m product, single machine economic lot size problem to include the cost of returns due to spoilage. A revised cycle time is determined for the case where spoiled items are always returned and for the case where there is a chance the spoiled item will not be returned. Differences among all three models are illustrated with a numerical example
