Pages 215-220 | Published online: 17 Apr 2007

Abstract

The design engineer will have to be responsible for selecting the manufacturing processes that are to be used to fabricate each part ho designs, For economical reasons, the product designer in the future, as he creates and details the design, will knowingly select the most economical processes by which the parts will be manufactured. In addition, since the strength of the material in the fabricated part is in many cases drastically different from its ‘ handbook ’ value, it is essential that the design engineer have control over the details of the manufacturing processes in order to insure mechanical reliability.
