Stock control in small companies

Abstract

This paper presents the results of an exploratory study financed by the Science Research Council of the United Kingdom into the following questions:

(i) Do small batch manufacturing companies use the techniques that are

illustrated in the textbooks ?

(ii) If not, are they aware of this body of knowledge ?

(iii) Are the techniques appropriate for application in these small batch manufacturing companies?

(iv) If they do not use them, what factors influence their stocking policies?
