A fundamental examination of the economics of the two-pass turning operation

Pages 617-626 | Received 01 Nov 1982, Published online: 26 Apr 2007

Abstract

It is shown that the concept of equivalent chip thickness allows the development. of general rules for the selection of cutting conditions in the two-pass turning operation. The paper is mainly concerned with the formulation of general guidelines for the subdivision of total depth of cut. The results indicate that, in most cases, the cost is minimized when the depth of cut in the initial pass is as great as possible.
