Realistic closed ecosystems: a rebuttal

Pages 203-204 | Received 13 May 1986, Published online: 31 May 2007

Abstract

This paper rebuts Loehle's correspondence entitled ‘Hirata's stability analysis refuted’. His criticism is that the model and analysis of Hirata are void of meaning because materially-closed ecological systems are not ecologically realistic. This paper demonstrates that his criticism is irrelevant by showing several realistic materially-closed ecosystems and by pointing out the important tradition of research on such systems.
