ABSTRACT

The helminth fauna of the two species of Acomys occurring in Israel was studied. Seventeen species of helminths were found in A. cahirinus of which three are new: Syphacia minuta n. sp., Metathelazia acomysi n. sp. (Nematoda); Rodentolepls negevi n. sp. (Cestoda). The following species were found for the first time in A. cahirinus: Aspiculurisafricana Quentin, 1966; Trichuris muris (Schrank, 1788); Trichosomoides crassicauda (Bellingham, 1840); Streptopharagus kutassi (Schulz, 1927) (Nematoda); Hymenolepls diminuta (Rudolphi, 1819); Pseudandrya monardi Fuhrmann, 1943; Mathevotaenia rodentinum (Joyeux, 1927) (Cestoda); Moniliformis moniliformis (Bremser, 1811) (Acanthocephala). The other species found were: Dentostomella kuntzi Myers, 1961; Gongylomena sp., Ascarididae sp. (larva); Spiruridae sp. (larva) (Nematode); letrathyridium (Cestode); Scaphiostomun sp. (Trematode). Four species were recovered from A. russatus: Syphacia minuta n. sp.: Aspiculuris africana, Streptopharagus kutassi (new host records) and Dentostomella kuntzi. All these species were found in A. cahirinus. The occurrence of each helminth species in the hosts and in different areas are discussed.
