ABSTRACT

Three species of the genus Halobates (Hemiptera: Gerridae) are mentioned and their distribution in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden is discussed. Halobates hayanus White can be found near Mersa Halaib (southern Egypt), in the Gulf of Zula and off Aden. H. germanus White seems to be an open sea species which is widespread in Indo-Pacific waters. It has been recorded frequently from the Gulf of Aden and is common in the Red Sea. H. mangrovensis n. sp. lives very close to the shore and was found under the mangroves of Nabq (Gulf of Elat) and in the Gulf of Zula.
