ABSTRACT
The systematics of the genus Myosorex was investigated by allozyme electrophoresis. Protein products of 26 loci were analyzed for S Myosorex varias, 3 Myosorex sclateri, 1 Myosorex cafer, 15 Crocidura Olivieri, 4 Crocidura luna, 2 Sorex araneus, and 2 Neomys fodiens. Genetic distances observed between Myosorex varias, M. sclateri, and M. cafer are typical of well differentiated species, confirming chromosomal variation previously reported. Maximum parsimony and likelihood analysesof electrophoretic data suggest that Myosorex diverged from the Crocidurinae lineage at nearly the same time as the subfamily Soricinae. Myosorex may, therefore, represent a survivor of the subfamily Crocidosoricinae Reumer, 1987.
