ABSTRACT
During a brief survey of inland-water Gastrotricha of Israel, 23 species were found—22 of them belonging to the family Chaetonotidae and one to the Dasydytidae. The most diverse fauna was found in the Hula Nature Reserve and in the Huqoq swampy pond. Among the Chaetonotidae taxa found, 8 species are cosmopolitan, 2 are known only from Europe, and 12 are unknown to science. More than half (54.5%) of the species found in Israel were previously reported from Europe. Heterolepidoderma dimentmani n. sp., Aspidiophorus pori n. sp., A. heterodermus Saito levantinensis n. ssp., and Chaetonotus pawlowskii Kisielewski hulensis n. ssp. are described. H. dimentmani n. sp., found in the Dead Sea area, appears to represent an originally marine line which adapted to life in inland waters.
