Abstract

Poly(ethy1enemercaptoester) coupling agents (EME, structure I) have been shown previously1 to enhance both the initial peel strength and corrosion resistance of steel-epoxy adhesive joints. Their success was attributed to the ability of the mercaptoester functionality to interact chemically with both the epoxy resin and the steel surface, thus forming chemical bonds across the interface.
