Abstract
Some 20 CSE1 biology examinations were studied to determine whether practical and theory examinations tested separate constructs. Multitrait-multimethod matrices reveal evidence of convergent validity between different tests of theoretical biology. There is little evidence for convergent validity between two practical tests forming part of the same examination. Practical tests and written papers show very limited evidence of divergent validity.
