Abstract
An analysis of the growth of the dandelion peduncle is described, based on measurement of peduncle length, dimensions of epidermal cells, and fresh and dry mass. The methods used are simple, requiring no special apparatus or materials. The work could be carried out by students at secondary or higher level, providing them with an insight into plant growth and its control. It is suggested that limited practical work in schools in this area may have led to a general lack of knowledge amongst biology students about how plants grow.
