Pages 257-262 | Published online: 13 Dec 2010

Abstract

The natural limitations on insect herbivory are discussed with reference to factors affecting the occurrence of insects and those affecting the paiatability of plants. The specialised niches occupied by insects with different feeding methods are Illustrated and interactions between plant, herbivore and environmental stresses are discussed. A case study of Rumex spp. herbivores provides some suggestive starting points for practical project work.
