Abstract
Robert J. Staaf's article presents a new approach to analyzing student performance and into the measurement of the impact of a change in input innovations in introductory courses. He suggests that “distributive requirements” for many students may be “inferior goods.” The pass/fail option is discussed in terms of its effect on students of different abilities.
