International Trade, Budget Deficits, and the Interest Rate

Pages 189-193 | Published online: 14 Jul 2014

Abstract

In a keynote address to the Joint Council on Economic Education, the author pointed out that a tight money policy, budget deficits, and greater after-tax profitability of investment in the United States have contributed to the strength of the dollar and to the flow of funds into this country. The consequence and implication of this are examined, both with respect to the past and the near future.
