Abstract
During orientation, 58 social work students were tested for dogmatic, authoritarian, and alienated attitudes, as well as for intelligence, to determine if any of these factors would predict graduate school performance At the end of the year, overall performance ratings by faculty could be predicted from students' initial attitudinal responses; however, field instructors' ratings were not related to any of the predictor variables. Results from this study strongly suggest that in addition to involving field instructors more directly in the admissions process, faculty should try new screening devices, such as attitudinal scales.
