Abstract
The author recently returned to the United States after working for five years in Europe. One of the subjects studied was the possibility of international field placements for American social work students. Under the auspices of the National Institute of Mental Health the author pursued this question by: (1) visiting schools of social work and interviewing deans and faculty; (2) observing various community development projects; and (3) surveying the members of the European Chapter of NASW. These approaches and findings are presented in the paper as well as recommendations for future action in this area.
