Abstract
This article presents a comparative analysis of 79 schools of social work in 65 countries published in the World Guide to Social Work Education. Progress is noted in many areas, and social work education is revealed at a moment of significant change. This is particularly true in the Third World, where traditional remedial functions are incorporating the goals of social development The analysis also shows that there is enough in common in the curriculum structure and content of schools of social work for the field to claim legitimacy as an international discipline.
