Abstract
In a national study of admissions practices at the undergraduate level, the author sought to ascertain, (1) degree of program control over admission, (2) time of entry, (3) methods utilized, and (4) anticipated future changes. A majority of programs controlled the screening of all or a portion of their student population. No association of degree of control with public or private sponsorship was noted. Programs with complete control predominantly delayed entry. Methods of admission showed much innovation and use of preadmission field experiences and courses to determine entry, in addition to more traditional approaches.
