The Small Group Oral Examination as an Educational Tool

&
Pages 82-86 | Published online: 30 Jul 2013

Abstract

The authors discuss the results of a two-year follow-up study of students who had been enrolled in a course on social work with groups in which the only mechanism for evaluation of learning was a small group oral examination. The findings suggest that the mechanism was an effective educational tool. It tapped a natural resource for learning, was responsive to the self-image of the graduate student, and promoted the integration of theory with practice.
