Abstract
Although social casework began in the West as a child of the social reform movement, the two approaches have become widely separated during the intervening years. The developing nations are currently enacting mass development programs and the value of the Westernized casework method as taught in schools of social work and as an operational service delivery system must be evaluated in terms of national priorities. Literature on the subject is reviewed and some suggestions are made regarding the establishment of a holistic approach to social work in these countries.
