Abstract
In their review and collation of Council on Social Work Education reports of appointments of faculty for the years 1968–76, the authors identify a distinct downward trend in the rank of appointments accepted by social work educators. Simultaneously, the percentage of female appointments rose significantly in undergraduate programs. In graduate schools where women traditionally have been well represented numerically, there was a tendency toward appointing women to higher academic ranks. The role of women in social work education is explicated in the light of affirmative action and other forces.
