Abstract
This study examines some of the relevant factors and forces that influence the decision of minority group students to undertake social work doctoral studies and the problems they encounter. Data were obtained from a national sample of minority students who were enrolled in doctoral programs during the 1976–77 academic year. The information from the group highlights the type and intensity of problems they encountered. Overall, the findings of this study indicate a need for innovative efforts to recruit and retain minority students in doctoral programs.
