Abstract
This paper presents a consortial model that colleges within a short distance of each other may adopt. Particular attention is given to the components of consortial infrastructure: the policy board and the role of the deans, the consortium director, the campus program coordinators, and the students' departmental boards. Guidelines for institutional collaboration, quality controls, faculty resources, and curriculum development are explained. It should be noted that since the presentation of this paper in 1978, the Westchester consortium has evolved from the federated structure described herein to a single multi-institutional program. In light of these structural developments, the program was recently accredited by CSWE at the four original colleges and is in candidacy status at Marymount College, which joined the consortium while this paper was being given.
