Abstract
The timing and content of graduate social work education programs need to be reconsidered for greater relevance to today's practice demands. In this article, a study is cited in which findings indicate significant differences between graduates from one-year programs and those from two-year programs. Practice assessments as scored by the graduates themselves did not correlate with supervisors' assessments of the graduates' practice. It is concluded that time is needed for effective professional socialization, and a two-year graduate program, with certain recommended changes in content, is suggested.
