Women in Organizations: A Review of Research and Some Implications for Teaching Social Work Practice

Pages 20-27 | Published online: 20 Jun 2013

Abstract

Research reveals the double-jeopardy of women employed in organizations. First, a number of personal, interpersonal, and organizational barriers to the advancement of women have been identified. Second, evidence suggests that as women advance they either do not receive or they lose the organizational and interpersonal rewards that accompany the advancement of men. This paper reviews some of this research and discusses the general implications of the findings for teaching social work practice at the master's degree level.
