Abstract
This study examined the strengths and weaknesses of the Student Observation of Teachers and Teaching Techniques (StOTT) instrument. This instrument was developed by high school students to measure student opinions about their teachers’ methods. Thirty-six teachers and their 925 high school students participated in the study. The StOTT was found to possess a number of desirable measurement traits. The results of the study, however, did not support usage of the StOTT by administrators as a teacher evaluation device, since ratings of teachers seemed to be influenced by such factors as students’ general feelings about school and teachers.
