Multivariate Identification and Prediction of University Student Problems

Pages 44-49 | Published online: 28 Jan 2015

Abstract

This study identified personality differences between college students who had and who did not have emotional problems, and then used these personality differences to predict emotional problems in other students. Personality differences on seven measures predicted three kinds of emotional problems. The technique predicted problems with the great silent majority of students who never ask for official help. This information can be used to plan preventive counseling or educational programs early in the college career of potential problem students.
