INVESTIGATION OF PLUNGING DENSITY CURRENTS GENERATED BY INFLOWS IN LAKES

Abstract

In the present study, global characteristic quantities, such as width, depth, dilution and velocity of three dimensional density currents over a sloping bottom have been investigated experimentally. These quantities are compared with calculated quantities, based on a simple integral model developed for this purpose. In the scope of the present study, a reasonal agreement between theory and experimental observation could be found.
