Evaluating Recreation Trip Attributes and Travel Time Via Conjoint Analysis

Abstract

This paper develops a conjoint measure approach to evaluate unpriced attributes of recreational hunting trips. Respondents' ratings of alternative hunting trip descriptions are used to impute values for various trip characteristics, including recreational travel time. The derived valuation of travel time significantly exceeds the hourly wage equivalent, and apparently reflects the implicit cost of displaced time on site more than the opportunity cost of displaced labor.
